Supporters were left shocked when Lowndes announced that he would be stepping down from full-time racing at the end of the 2018 season. Lowndes ended his full-time career on a high with a race win, three podium finishes and a 4th place in the Championship. Nothing beats conquering ‘The Mountain’, and after winning Bathurst with co-driver Steve Richards only a month prior to the final round, the timing seemed too perfect in the end.
Having joined Triple Eight Race Engineering in 2005, Lowndes achieved his most successful times with the Triple Eight team behind him – including 12-straight top 4 finishes in the Championship and SIX Bathurst wins! To honour such an incredible career, the #888 Autobarn ZB livery in stunning metallic gold and black is a very special celebration of the first ever Triple Eight livery Lowndes raced in 2005-06. The impressive livery was a surprise, even to Craig Lowndes, and was finished off with a special gold helmet and race suit for the veteran’s 294th l Championship event as a full-time driver. He even received an honour guard formed by other teams and drivers leading to the grid for the Sunday race!
Now a member of the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame, his achievements on and off the racetrack are truly commendable! And as “Lowndesy” continues his career as an endurance racer and co-driver for Triple Eight Race Engineering, his laurels will continue
