The 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 delivered one of the most dramatic finishes in the history of The Great Race, with Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood overcoming a costly pit stop to claim a remarkable last-lap victory for Shell V-Power Racing Team driving the iconic #17 Ford Mustang GT.
After dominating much of the race, a stunning recovery drive from Kostecki, including twice breaking the lap record, put the #17 Mustang back in contention before a dramatic final-lap twist saw him sweep into the lead on Mountain Straight.
The result secured Dick Johnson Racing’s fifth Bathurst 1000 victory and set a new record for the fastest running of The Great Race.
Beyond the result, the emotion broadcast from the DJR garage as Kostecki crossed the finish line, particularly the moving reactions of Dick and Jill Johnson, made this victory even more special. It was an unforgettable moment for the team and its passionate supporters, adding another chapter to the incredible legacy of the famous #17.
